They are spread over most of central and eastern North America in large numbers often grouped in noisy flocks.
About 12 inches long, its voice sounds like the name. It is a cross between "chuck" and a prolonged loud crackle. They will eat almost anything, including the eggs and young of smaller birds.
They like to nest in a pine tree and high above the ground.
