Grossbeak

Updated: Nov 9, 2024

The Rose-breasted Grosbeak is a common Summer resident on Breeches Lake and eastern North America. The female and young are streaked brownish birds but they are easily identified by their "gross beaks," their broad white wing bars, their white eye-lines and chin-stripes.

The male helps build the crude nest and takes turns with the female sitting on the eggs. He also brings food to the female when she is sitting on the nest.

Its song is a lovely warbling carol with a baritone tone to it.
