The Purple Finch is abundant at Breeches, but often difficult to distinguish from other birds due to the soft "old rose" colour of the male and the gray-brown colour of the female. Look for the dark streaks behind the eye and the stronger beak that distinguishes it from the English Sparrow.
There will be no problem at all in identifyoing the Purple Finch once you hear its song, a delightful rolling warbel that differs much from the songs of any other birds.
