Hare  (Lupus americanus)

Length: head and body: 45 cm; tail: 5 cm.

Characteristics: long rear legs; dark fur (white in winter

Habitat: Forests, marshlands.

Twice per year, this hare changes her costume. After September, its brown fur changes progressively to turn white. Another change occurs in March. In Autumn, the legs are covered with long hair. This protects her against the cold and helps her to run in the snow.   Her food supply changes with the seasons. When green plants are not available, she eats twigs and buds.
