Shrikes are one of the smaller prey birds, often called "Butcher Birds". If you see the bloody remains of a Blue Jay in the snow, that will probably be the work of the "Butcher Bird" or Shrike. They are about 9 inches in length, black wings with white patches and black tails fringed with white.
They are seldom seen at Breeches, but when you see one, you will never forget it.
